Dear Industry Colleagues
Welcome to the first issue for 08/09 financial year – at Tourism Australia it’s all systems go for another big year in business events.
A key focus of our upcoming work will be the development of more substantial public relations work to support our trade marketing programs. At the core of this will be a range of content generation initiatives designed to position new and fresh angles about Australia’s business events capability.
The CSR audit that will soon commence will provide ideal content for one of these campaigns. I have no doubt that we will develop an exciting inventory of CSR product out of this audit. So I urge you to tell us your story.

We have all seen and read about the unprecedented exposure that World Youth Day (WYD) generated for Australia over the past two weeks – this type of publicity gives visibility on a scale that no marketing campaign could ever buy.
It also provided another opportunity to showcase Australia’s capability to host major events. Adding WYD to our inventory of successfully delivered global events will be an asset for Australia in pitching for new meetings business. To view images from the event, click here. Congratulations Sydney and all business events partners that played a role in this religious festival which also included a substantial exhibition at Darling Harbour.
Tourism Australia will roll-out a series of marketing programs designed to leverage the global release of one of 20th Century Fox’s biggest film’s of the year, Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Australia’, - starring two of our greatest exports, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. While the movie is an historical romantic epic, and not about a business event – some of the key themes around the concept of personal ‘transformation’ will have resonance in our sector. More about this in forthcoming issues. Tourism Australia will launch details of some projects around the movie over the coming weeks.
So, more exciting and challenging times ahead – we look forward to working with you.
Best wishes,
Joyce DiMascio
