About T-QUAL Accreditation
There are over 20 accreditation, rating and certifciation programs that encompass the operations of more than 22,000 tourism businesses in Australia today. This diversity is confusing for consumers looking for a single logo that represents quality. It also means that a united approach to marketing accredited businesses has not been possible until this point. A new national tourism accreditation framework, marketed as T-QUAL Accreditation, has been developed by government and industry to identify quality accreditation programs and allow accredited operators to market themselves with a national symbol of quality – the T-QUAL Tick.
T-QUAL aims to elevate and standardise quality to ensure the sustainability of Australia’s tourism industry. It addresses a key strategic focus of the 2020 Tourism Industry Potential: to develop and influence quality within the tourism industry. A cooperative partnership is responsible for helping T-QUAL deliver this:
> The Tourism Quality Council of Australia (TQCA) is responsible for the overarching policy and direction of
T-QUAL Accreditation, and for granting T-QUAL licenses to quality programs;
>The Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism (RET) provides briefing and secretariat services to the TQCA, and administers T-QUAL Accreditation; and
> Tourism Australia (TA) is responsible for developing and implementing the T-QUAL Accreditation marketing strategy.
This partnership is in consultation with:
> State and Territory Tourism Organisations (STOs) and accreditation programs.
T-QUAL endorsed operators benefit from increased marketing exposure, online distribution and credibility. In turn, consumers benefit from the national symbol of excellence, the T-QUAL Tick, which helps them make more informed choices when selecting Australian tourism products and services.
