General Manager Western Markets  
Tourism Australia is responsible for the global and domestic marketing of Australia as a preferred tourism destination.  It is acknowledged as one of the most innovative and successful tourism marketing organisations in the world.Working as part of the Global Management Team, you are accountable for:

  • Working with our Regional management teams in delivering services  across the western hemisphere markets, including the UK, Continental Europe, the Americas and New Zealand;
  • Identifying and developing growth opportunities in western hemisphere markets; and
  • Developing and managing relationships with key stakeholders in Australia and overseas.

To meet the requirements of the role, you will have proven experience in operations management, exceptional communication and presentation skills, strong financial management experience and outstanding stakeholder and people management skills. You will also have experience in working with culturally diverse teams in international offices and the ability to engage and influence at all levels.

Student Volunteer Program

Applications for Tourism Australia's 2011 Student Volunteer Program will open in October.

Tourism Australia’s Student Volunteer Program is highly regarded within the tourism industry and education institutions throughout Australia. The program commenced in 2003 and is part of Tourism Australia’s industry development initiative to provide practical skills and training to students in order to build their professional work confidence and experience.

The program gives students currently studying an undergraduate degree in Tourism, Marketing or Communications the opportunity to undertake practical work experience in various business units of Tourism Australia’s Sydney office.

Student opportunities in 2011
Students who will be in their final year of study in 2011, completing a tourism, marketing or communications degree will be able to apply for a place in the 2011 Student Volunteer Program when applications open in October 2010.

How can I apply to work for Tourism Australia
When a vacancy arises, you can apply by sending through a cover letter and resume to vacancy@tourism.australia.com, before the due date. Please note that as we are a Statutory Authority and not a public service, addressing selection criteria for roles is not required. Applicants will only be contacted after the closing date, with all applicants being advised of their application’s result via email.

Where are vacancies listed?
All roles that are advertised externally are placed on our corporate website and in most circumstances, can be found on www.seek.com.au (in Australia), as well as other major job boards around the world for international based roles.

Does Tourism Australia offer work experience/internships?
Tourism Australia operates a Student Volunteer Program each year in our Head Office in Sydney. The program is designed for final year Australian university students, as work experience to compliment their degree. The work completed is voluntary and unpaid, with recruitment for each intake occurring from October for the following year. This program consumes all the work experience opportunities at Tourism Australia. There are no other opportunities available for student or volunteers outside this program.

How am I eligible to work for Tourism Australia?
To be eligible, you must have the right to work in the particular country office of interest, as well as meet the requirements of the role. Successful candidates will need to provide evidence of their right to work before commencing employment.
