In 2016, the United States of America (USA) was Australia’s fourth largest inbound market for visitor arrivals, the third largest market for total visitor spend and the fourth for visitor nights. Visitors to Australia from the USA generated $3.6 billion in total expenditure in 2016. The Tourism 2020 strategy estimates that the market has the potential to grow to between $4.5 billion and $5.5 billion in overnight expenditure by 2020.
