2 March 2016
The fourth annual Australia Tourism Summit, hosted by Tourism Australia and Australia’s State Travel Organisations at the 2016 Australia United States Business Week (AUSBW) in California last week, presented thought-provoking insights to help grow business, and achieve Australia’s 2020 Tourism goals.
Leaders from tourism and luxury brands including Visa, Virtuoso, Ipsos, TCS World Travel, and GoPro as well as media partners Afar, Departures, Travel + Leisure and Food & Wine magazines shared the latest trends and best practices in marketing.
Key themes included the continued consumer confidence in the US market, importance of experiences over brands, sharing data insight about the affluent customer, cultivating communities and loyalty; establishing successful partnerships, and using content that is inspirational, aspirational and local.
Among 285 registered guests were media from Robb Report, Huffington Post, Conde Nast Traveler and TravelAge West, wholesalers, consortia, retail agents, airlines and Australian product.
Minister for Tourism and International Education, Senator The Hon. Richard Colbeck and major event airline partner Virgin Australia kicked off the Summit sharing the new coastal and aquatic campaign. Australia’s coastal experiences continued to be showcased throughout the conference whether set to music from the Australian Chamber Orchestra with beautiful images from Western Australia and Ningaloo Reef, to stepping inside TA's new virtual reality content.
Additionally as part of AUSBW 2016, Australia Marketplace attracted 95 Australian suppliers and 85 buyers (wholesalers and Premier ASPs). Buyers who attended this year's event enjoyed the diversity of products and experiences showcased, with an increase in product suppliers, up from 70 last year, to 95 this year.
Also in LA last week, Tourism Australia and the State Travel Organisations hosted 100 travel agents at the There’s Nothing Like Australia Retail Tradeshow on February 24th.
The There’s Nothing Like Australia Retail Roadshow visits Vancouver, San Francisco and Denver from February 29 through March 2. The aim is to bring Australian suppliers and highly qualified retail travel agents together for targeted one-on-one appointments and networking receptions in each city.
