Over 300 frontline travel sellers from the USA, Canada, Brazil, the UK, Germany, France and Italy will travel to Queensland’s sunny Gold Coast in October 2017 for Corroboree West, a six-day specialised training event for qualified Aussie Specialists.
The inaugural Corroboree West will mark the first time the event has encompassed both European and North American agents together and follows the success of the recent Corroboree Asia event for key Eastern markets in Perth earlier this month.
“Not only will this directly benefit Gold Coast businesses, but the flow on effects for the Gold Coast and Australia will be significant – boosting our economy and driving jobs,” said the Hon. Steven Ciobo MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.
Following a bid process the Gold Coast was confirmed as the destination to host the event where Aussie Specialist agents will receive specialised training, participate in sales workshops and experience Australian tourism product first hand both in the Gold Coast and at familiarisation destinations around the country.
Mr Ciobo said after a hugely successful Australian Tourism Exchange in May the Gold Coast had proved itself as the perfect host city for events.
“The feedback from ATE this year was outstanding, with 97 per cent of attendees reporting being ‘satisfied’ to ‘extremely satisfied’ with the Gold Coast and 78 per cent left with an improved view of the city,” he said.
The Aussie Specialist Program, which was relaunched a year ago with a new online training platform and trainers in market around the world, was recently recognised in North America with a Travel Weekly 2016 Silver Magellan Award Winner in the Destinations - Education Program category.
“The Aussie Specialist Program is the cornerstone of our distribution program and is one of the key ways we ensure Tourism Australia’s marketing efforts are being converted into actual bookings,” said John O’Sullivan, Tourism Australia Managing Director.
“Corroboree is always a successful event because once these front line travel sellers come to Australia they become lifelong advocates.”
Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter said events like Corroboree and ATE continue to build the city’s image as a leisure and business events capital.
“It is another opportunity to update and shift perceptions of our destination, by showcasing our diverse and exceptional experiences to a highly targeted audience,” he said.
Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Leanne Coddington said Queensland and the Gold Coast would reap significant benefits from Corroboree West 2017.
“The opportunity for these specialists to see Queensland’s unique experiences first hand add significant value to the way international buyers promote Queensland to the world,” she said.
The Aussie Specialist Program is Tourism Australia’s global training program, shared by all eight state and territory tourism partners and designed to provide frontline travel sellers from around the globe with the knowledge and skills to best sell Australia.
