More than 2,300 delegates attending the 2016 Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE16) were treated to a warm Aussie welcome at the Gold Coast Events Centre last night by 'the voice' of Tourism Australia's latest ad, Chris Hemsworth.
Themed to bring to life Australia’s aquatic and coastal experiences - the focus of Tourism Australia’s latest global campaign - guests were treated to a Aussie menu of sumptuous local produce and seafood, local beers and Australian wines against a backdrop of sun, surf and water.
Emcee for the event Catriona Rowntree introduced the Minister for Trade and Investment, the Hon Steven Ciobo to welcome the ATE16 delegates to the Gold Coast, and Tourism Australia Managing Director John O’Sullivan.
The highlight of the event was the surprise appearance of Tourism Australia’s global campaign Ambassador Chris Hemsworth who shared his personal insights into Australia’s world-class aquatic and coastal experiences with guests attending the event.
"I’ve been travelling a lot over the last few years and I’ve got to say every time I come back I appreciate it even more, and think how lucky I am to have grown up and live here.
"I’m excited to welcome the rest of the world to experience what I grew up with.
"When I come home I often head straight to the beach and into the water," he said.
