Friends of Australia showcase coast and cuisine in new TV series

Australia’s stunning coast and delicious food will be showcased to millions of Australian and international TV viewers in an exciting new series fronted by two of Tourism Australia’s global ‘Friends of Australia’ ambassadors.
‘Surfing the Menu: The Next Generation’ is a fresh take on one of the ABC’s most successful cooking shows where Masterchef Australia alumni Dan Churchill and Hayden Quinn explore Australia’s northern coastlines using local ingredients to create simple, healthy and delicious recipes.
Dan and Hayden are both part of Tourism Australia’s ‘Friends of Australia’ global ambassador network that recognises bright and influential opinion leaders who share a passion for Australia.
The series creates a natural link between the focus Tourism Australia has placed on both on food and wine and aquatic and coastal experiences in its global marketing campaign ‘There’s Nothing Like Australia’ and has been supported by Tourism Australia, Tourism Western Australia and Tourism & Events Queensland.
Tourism Australia is also publishing itinerary ideas inspired by the series in the What’s New section of Australia.com.
The first episode aired in Australia on Sunday 22 May on ABC and followed Dan and Hayden as they travelled to Noosa in their fifty-year-old VW Bug GiGi where they learnt to kite surf, discovered the best surf spots from a floatplane and learnt about organic produce at the Noosa Markets.
Still in store during the series is a four-wheel-drive journey through the desert, a trip to an outback cattle station, sailing lessons, snorkelling on the Ningaloo and Great Barrier Reefs, catching mud crabs and swimming with Manta Rays.
Along the way the pair meet passionate food producers of everything from heritage tomatoes, cheese, beef, goats, mangoes and herbs, to exotic mushrooms, shrimp, rum, and salt. They also forage for bush medicines and foods with Indigenous communities.
The original Surfing the Menu series was sold in over 70 countries and launched the TV careers of chefs Ben O’Donohue and Curtis Stone, making this new venture a valuable opportunity to showcase both Australian culinary and coastal experiences to the world.
