Travel Mission wows Indian travel agents

A record 68 Australian tourism businesses attended the India Travel Mission 2016 (ITM16) in Chennai from 18 to 21 August. The Australian delegation met with 89 qualified travel agencies and tour operators across two and a half days of business appointments and evening networking functions. Over the course of the event over 6,000 pre-scheduled appointments took place. “India is an important and growing market for Australian tourism and I’m thrilled with the enthusiasm and excitement from travel sellers at ITM,” said Tourism Australia Managing Director John O’Sullivan who attended the event.
Friend of Australia and legendary cricket icon, Adam Gilchrist, attended the ITM16 to encourage more outbound tourism from India to Australia. Advocating Australia as an ideal holiday destination for Indian travellers, Adam interacted with the media and the Indian travel trade in Mumbai and Chennai as a part of the event program. A visitor to India for over 20 years, Adam left a special message for the Australian travel industry that can be viewed below.
ITM16 in Chennai was followed by a Mumbai component with a networking evening organised for the Australian trade to meet with key decision makers from the Indian travel industry based in the commercial capital of India. The delegates at the event in Mumbai were joined by the Australian Consul General to Mumbai, Tony Huber and Friend of Australia, well known cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle who spoke to the audience about the his experiences of travelling to Australia over 25 years.
