Highlights

  • There were 6.2 million visitor arrivals for year ending April 2013, an increase of 4.8 per cent relative to the previous year.
  • There were 2.1 million visitor arrivals to Australia during the four months to April 2013, an increase of 3.9 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.
  • There were 459,900 visitor arrivals during April 2013, a decline of 1.4 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.

New Zealand

There were 100,300 visitors from New Zealand during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 355,400 an increase of 0.4 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year. 

Europe

  • There were 38,300 visitors from the United Kingdom during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 231,700, a decrease of 2.0 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 10,500 visitors from Germany during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 57,800, an increase of 4.7 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 7,000 visitors from France during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 34,200 an increase of 6.9 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

The Americas

  • There were 36,000 visitors from the United States of America during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 177,800, an increase of 7.4 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 8,100 visitors from Canada during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 46,200, a decrease of 4.0 per cent relative to the same period previous year.     

Southeast Asia

  • There were 22,700 visitors from Singapore during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 101,600, an increase of 11.4 per cent relative to the same period previous year.  
  • There were 17,900 visitors from Malaysia during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 77,500, an increase of 4.6 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 14,000 visitors from India during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 55,100, an increase of 4.2 per cent relative to the same period previous year. 
  • There were 8,900 visitors from Indonesia during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 39,700, a decrease of 5.0 per cent relative to the same period previous year. 
  • There were 11,300 visitors from Thailand during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 30,500, an increase of 4.8 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

Japan 

  • There were 19,200 visitors from Japan during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 110,000, a decrease of 8.5 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

Northeast Asia

  • There were 58,000 visitors from China during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 289,400, an increase of 17.8 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 14,300 visitors from Korea during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 67,400, a decrease of 5.5 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 12,300 visitors from Hong Kong during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 65,900, an increase of 3.0 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 7,400 visitors from Taiwan during April 2013, bringing the total for the four months to April to 34,600, an increase of 13.8 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
