2PM Wild Beat, a Korean reality variety show featuring popular K-pop stars 2PM, filmed 10 episodes Down Under earlier this month which are expected to be watched by millions on Korean television as well as online across Asia when they go to air early in 2017.
The South Korean pop group, who travelled together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut, visited Melbourne, Phillip Island, Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs & Winery, Maru Koala and Animal Park, Brighton beach and Uluru.
“Korea is growing strongly for us, with annual visitor arrivals up 28 per cent, but we’re always looking for new ways of keeping Australia front of mind in such an important market,” said John O’Sullivan, Managing Director Tourism Australia.
“The power of celebrity is huge in Korea, as we saw in 2014 when we invited the stars of Running Man down under to film three Australian episodes of the hit reality show.
“It’s exciting two years later to provide the spectacular backdrop for another popular Korean TV show, which will give millions of Koreans the chance to see Australia through the eyes of six of its well-known and respected national K-Pop stars,” he said.
Tourism Australia and Visit Victoria with support from Tourism Northern Territory supported the filming.
Travel to Australia from South Korea has been growing rapidly with visitor numbers up 28.3% for the year ending September 2016.
