The Tourism White Paper is an Australian Government tourism initiative, designed to achieve industry growth and provide greater synergy across all areas. It provides the framework for structural change to more effectively support Australia's tourism industry.

The Tourism White Paper will:

  • Improve international marketing strategies and effectiveness through a greater focus on regional dispersal and a revitalised Brand Australia;
  • Supports domestic tourism marketing and promotion, including regional tourism promotion;
  • Improves tourism information, research and forecasts to more effectively serve the needs of the industry.

The paper contains an additional $235 million funding over the next four and a half years, including $120 million for international marketing.

As part of the White Paper initiative the Australian Government established, Tourism Australia on 1 July 2004, encompassing the functions of the Australian Tourist Commission, See Australia, the Bureau of Tourism Research and the Tourism Forecasting Council.
