INTRODUCTION |
 |
| |
|

|
Dear industry
colleagues,
My sleeves are well and truly rolled up as I navigate the
first few months of this new role. There are some very
exciting opportunities ahead as we work together to make the
most of Australia’s capability in the business events
sector.
I’ve had many
fruitful meetings with many of you over the past few weeks
mapping out with industry
leaders how best to develop both our
|
|
short and longer term priorities. We need
to be clear, focussed, realistic and wherever possible, on the
same page!
The good news is that Federal Government
has renewed Tourism Australia’s Tourism White Paper funding.
This was announced in Canberra on budget night. For Tourism
Events Australia this now means we can continue to develop and
fund our marketing programs beyond June 08. It is a tight
budget so it’s important to ensure that we track results and
commit to programs where we can add real marketing value to
the industry…and importantly get results in positioning
Australia as an outstanding and desirable business events
destination. We will be unequivocally focussed on this.
As you know – Tourism Events Australia has
many substantial programs underway generated through the
Sydney office and also through our regional offices around the
world. We also have within Tourism Australia outstanding
resources and expertise. This is a great asset that should not
be ignored – there are marketing savvy teams across the
organisation whose expertise we will harness. This means that
while our unit is relatively small – we have access to the
significant resources of the whole organisation both in
Australia and across the world.
Mainstreaming Tourism Australia’s
commitment to Business Events will be a major priority. I know
that I will be doing this with tremendous support from our
Minister, Fran Bailey; the Board and its Chairman, Tim Fischer
and our Managing Director, Geoff Buckley.
Our industry also has many passionate and
committed advocates and we will work in partnership with you
to deliver the results we so much want for Business Events in
Australia.
Regards,
Joyce DiMascio Head of Tourism Events
Australia

| 'RE-ENERGISE IN
AUSTRALIA' CAMPAIGN BLITZ IN THE UK AND NORTH AMERICA |
 |
| |
|
Tourism Australia recently got the
undivided attention of key Corporate decision makers and their
influencers in the United Kingdom and North America with the
innovative ‘Re-energise in Australia’ direct mail
campaign. |
|
The direct mail elements consisted of an iPod
containing a motivational podcast and an Aboriginal artwork.
Similarly key Intermediaries were identified in these markets
and also received an iPod, with a podcast encouraging them to
start talking to their corporate clients about Australia as
their next Business Events destination. |

|
|
The iPods will act as an ongoing marketing
tool ensuring the communication lines are kept open with these
key contacts. In addition, all campaign recipients have a
personalised web portal which they can access through
events.australia.com. A Tourism Australia guide ‘Leah’
encourages them to register to receive the campaign collateral
piece, view rich format case studies, register for ongoing
communications and advise of their bookings to Australia.
The direct mail campaign has been extremely well
received and Tourism Australia staff in-market look forward to
an ongoing relationship with these key Corporates and
Intermediaries.
Roll out of the campaign in Asia is due to
occur at the end of May, with the launch of the new language
pages on events.australia.com – stay tuned for more
details. |
