INTRODUCTION |
 |
| |
|
Dear industry colleagues,
As you’ll
see we’ve introduced a new format to our e-newsletter style
this month so you can click through to those stories that
interest you most. You’ll see we have lots of challenging work
underway for our local and international teams – all well
supported by industry. We thank you for this. I am pleased
to advise that our Board has approved our renewed focus on
Business Events |

and extra support for core
programs in Corporate Familiarisations, Research and Insights,
Distribution and Trade Events, and Marketing Services
activities. This is great news and a clear indicator of the
strong support for our business.
On August 17 we’re
holding an industry briefing which will bring you up to date
with our progress and planning. This will be the first in the
series of events designed to allow two-way discussion about
what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. I believe these
sessions should answer your calls for more engagement with
Tourism Australia – your feedback from the first session will
be much appreciated.
There are a number of major challenges for
us all – most importantly the need to work smarter and more
strategically. This will be particularly vital to the
development of individual, but fully integrated, strategies
for our Corporate Meetings, Incentive, Association and Major
Events markets. We’re looking forward to taking on these
challenges with you.
One subject that we’ll put on the program
for urgent discussion is ‘sustainability’ This topic is
generating a lot of talk in the broader tourism industry and
all of us in the Business Events community need to look at the
possible risks and opportunities to our business. There is
some really positive work being done around this issue so its
important for all of us to start working on a consistent
message about what our industry is doing in terms of making
our business practices, product development and marketing
‘sustainable’.
On behalf of the TA team I look forward to
working with you to tackle all these great challenges and
more.
Best Wishes,
Joyce DiMascio Head of Tourism Events
Australia
PS – It was great to see so many of you at
the National Tourism Alliance dinner at Parliament house this
week. It’s clear from the dignitaries’ speeches the importance
of Business Events is front of mind in the political
realm. |
