INTRODUCTION |
 |
| |
|
Thank you for the positive feedback on
recent issues of this newsletter – its encouraging to hear
that the changes we’ve made have been so well received.
The last couple of months have been extremely
productive. We’ve provided some great opportunities to
showcase Australian Business Events products to buyers and
agents in major target markets of Asia, UK, Europe, New
Zealand and North America and have had a strong response.
Our intense focus on Asia is demonstrated
by a range of high-level trade marketing activities including
a very successful exploratory mission to Taiwan and Korea in
September. These are emerging markets for Business Events and
the |
 |
|
mission paved the way for seven bureaux to
learn more about the markets, pursue leads and develop
valuable agent and buyer relationships.
We’re also
making good progress in planning the 10th anniversary of TABEE
for 2008 – and we are pleased to announce that the location
for the next event is Macau. Our partners in Team Australia
will once again play a vital role recruiting sellers to join
us for this important event.
In another exciting development, TA
welcomed to Australia more than 500 representatives of the
fastest growing supermarket group in Taiwan, Chuan Lian
Corporation. The high-achievers were joined by the Group’s
President, Mr Lin Ming Hsuing and Executive President Mr Andy
Huang. This group was one of the first retail sector incentive
groups to visit Australia according to PTC Travel and augurs
well for the development of a new category.
Over the coming years driving more yield
through export and economic development will be a great
opportunity for our sector. To this end, TA is working more
closely with Austrade and Invest Australia. We recently
renewed our MOU with Austrade and Business Events is
recognised as a core component of our joint endeavours.
Collaboration across Government agencies is
not only logical but it makes clear economic sense, helping us
lift the ROI on Business Events marketing. TA is also working
with the International Event Coordinator Network in the
Department of Immigration and Citizenship, providing visa
processing assistance for events. This ageny’s work is largely
unrecognised by our sector, despite the vital service they
provide ensuring visa arrangments for major and business
events are handled professionally and quickly.
And we have more good news on the issue of
sustainability in Business Events - Qantas’ carbon offsets
program. It is part of a growing portfolio of industry
initiatives designed to provide green options to clients.
We’re continuing to explore the challenge
and in this e-newsletter are kicking off a short survey
inviting you to have your say on matters “green”.
Tourism Australia has a seat at the table
at the Australian Government’s Climate Change Taskforce so
this survey can help to provide some preliminary top-line
indicators specific to Business Events.
As the end of 2007 approaches we have a
full program of marketing initiatives rolling out. We look
forward to working with you on these.
Best wishes Joyce DiMascio Head
of Tourism Events Australia |

| SURVEY -
HAVE YOUR SAY |
| |
|
HOW GREEN ARE YOU? |
 |
| |
|
Australia has a great opportunity to more
aggressively market its green credentials in the Business
Events sector as more companies develop sustainable product
options.
Tourism Australia would like to hear from
you about specific client requests for green events, ways you
have addressed these requests and your company’s standard
green policies.
A questionnaire has been developed to gauge
the impact of the green debate on our sector. Please take the
time to complete this short questionnaire which will give us
valuable insight into just how green we are and the extent of
the demand for ‘green’ by our clients.

QUALITY
BUYERS TARGETED IN KOREA & TAIWAN MISSION
|
 |
| |
Seven Australian Convention and Visitors Bureaux attended
Tourism Australia’s Business Events Team Australia Exploratory
Mission to Korea and Taiwan last month.
The aim of the Mission was to improve buyers knowledge of
Australia as a Business Events destination through a series of
workshops and bureaux
presentations.
In Korea, ‘Team Australia’ met with 35 corporate buyers
from the insurance, private banking and pharmaceuticals
industries and 25 incentive agents. And in Taiwan, they met 67
corporate buyers from direct marketing, insurance, private
banking and pharmaceuticals industries and 36 incentive
agents.
Mission participant, Marina McKeague, Business Development
Manager, Perth Convention Bureau said the success of the
mission could be attributed the respect that the TA Country
Managers and Business Events team command in their respective
markets.
|
 |
“The work undertaken by the Country
Managers is of the highest standard and creates an excellent
business perception of Australia, our products and
services.”

CHICAGO SHOW - IT&ME 2007
|
 |
| |
A 25 per cent increase in business leads was the welcome
result for Australia at this year’s IT&ME in Chicago in
September.
TA and 16 Australian incentive suppliers participated this
year in what is North America’s most recognised incentive
travel trade event.
The best location on the trade
show floor, a quintessential Aussie themed ‘pub’ booth, baby
kangaroos and a wallaby to draw the 6000 buyers in,
as
|
|
well as happy hour drinks, combined to ensure
the pub ran at full capacity for the 3 day
show.
Around 340 leads were secured, of which 12
were hot prospects for business over the next two years.

One of Taiwan’s most dynamic
retailers, the Chuan Lian Corporation, chose Sydney to
reward its top performing store managers for their
efforts in making the company market leader in its
category.
While financial services and real
estate companies from Taiwan have previously used
Australia for their events, this was the first time a
Taiwanese retailer has graced Australian shores.
The Hilton Sydney was the host venue
for the group and the scene of a lavish gala dinner
where the company president, Mr Lin Ming Hsuing, thanked
his managers for their contribution to the company’s
success. An Australian
|
|
spirit prevailed throughout with
Indigenous dance and didgeridoo performances.
Joyce DiMascio, was on hand at the gala dinner
to welcome the guests, thanking them for choosing
Australia and expressed the hope they would one day
return with friends and family to see more of the
country.
