INTRODUCTION |
 |
| |
|
Dear Industry Colleagues,
Welcome the September issue of our
e-newsletter. As we go on-line this month, Sydney has
just finished hosting 21 world leaders from APEC member
economies and 400 business leaders for the Olympic Games of
business events. Tourism Australia led a successful
multi-agency presence at APEC to promote Australia to business
leaders and media.
And as world leaders met in Sydney,
the annual Australian Association of Convention Bureaux held
its annual staff conference in Darwin. Tourism Australia was
delighted to take part in this event and to have the
opportunity to brief the bureaux on plans for the coming year.
|
|
 |
|
Once again this year, Qantas and
Tourism Australia partnered to sponsor a special scholarship
for high achievers working in bureaux. I thank those Chief
Executives who supported their staff in their application and
congratulate Siddharth Ketkar from Adelaide Convention Tourism
Authority on receiving the award. Professional development of
our brightest should be commended and encouraged.
Last month, Tourism Australia held our
first Business Events workshop with industry – participants
were mostly associations, CVBs and airline partners. We have
had excellent feedback and look forward to making these forums
on ongoing part of our communications program.
Follow up work has already begun on the
next stages of the Business Events marketing campaign
‘Re-energise in Australia’. Our tracking results in
UK and US show the campaign has had excellent cut-through with
the on-line activity including case study views and podcast
downloads getting good take-up.
We have some
exciting times ahead – we are making good strides forward in
our work to centre-stage business events within the work of
Tourism Australia. Our team at Tourism Events Australia –
Pippa McCreery, Renee Baker, Alicia Hutchison, Mylie Hagan and
student volunteer, Sara Tavora look forward to working with
you to showcase Australia as an outstanding place to do
business. Joyce DiMascio Head of

TRA SURVEYS TO EXPAND |
 |
| |
Tourism Research Australia is expanding the International
Visitor Survey and National Visitor Survey in 2008 to include
more data on business events visitors.
Additional
questions will be added to the surveys to collect more
benchmark data on exhibition, conferences and incentive
visitors. These new questions will allow better analysis of
information about the Business Events
sector. Tourism Australia has worked with Tourism
Research Australia to draft new questions. These are currently
being discussed with industry representatives including BECA
and AACB.
