Dear Industry Colleague,
Over the past few months, Tourism Australia has led a number of its biggest annual trade initiatives in key markets around the world. The most recent were Team Australia Business Events Educational held in Kuala Lumpur in March and the other was our expanded presence at AIME in Melbourne in February.
For our partners, these events provide are a crucial opportunity to sit across the table from qualified buyers to discuss real pieces of business or to discuss ideas about new meeting locations and ideas.
The current exchange rates will assist our clients in getting exceptional value on top of all the other traditional benefits of meeting here – inspiring destination, excellent event delivery experience, creativity and warm and friendly people. |
The value proposition of Australia must be communicated more strongly – “price and value” are very relevant now and Australia presents good value for money.
As a veteran of the industry, Martin Lewis, Managing Editor of CAT Publications remarked to me during AIME: Australia currently provides event organisers a value proposition as good as anywhere on the planet.
“I don’t know anywhere else in the world where I can have fresh sea bass with asparagus in an exhibition centre – you are more likely to get a sausage roll in some venues. The quality and current value here in Australia is exceptional.”
At both AIME and TABEE, it was clear that there is a lot of business being negotiated and strong interest in Australia. Our brand health still holds us in good stead despite a most challenging economic landscape.
While the current economic environment is demanding a new level of marketing fitness and agility – there is no doubt that Australia’s success will also come down to our capacity to sell. And the operators who will succeed most are those that will work the relationship and communicate the value Australia’s value proposition through the sales process.
There has never been a better time to bring a meeting to Australia or indeed to keep a meeting in Australia.
If our experience of recent trade events is an indication – the business is out there. We need to make Australia a compelling value proposition.
Best wishes,
Joyce DiMascio

Strong buyer interest in Australia at TABEE 2009
The 11th annual Team Australia Business Events Educational (TABEE) in Kuala Lumpur from 2 - 4 March 2009 has been a resounding success. Australian Convention Bureaux and business events operators met in one-on-one business appointments with corporate end users and incentive agent buyers from 11 key Asian markets.
Buyer numbers were strong despite global conditions and Australian sellers reported strong interest from these buyers. |
Each Australian seller had around 56 appointments over the two day program and this intense buyer/seller program is at the heart of TABEE's strength. In addition to the the business meetings, the event program also included a seminar program, media briefings, team building activities, a gala dinner and a VIP program.
