Tourism Australia is the Official Tourism Authority of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and proud supporter of the Queen’s Baton Relay – International Sector.
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) is on from 4 to 15 April 2018. As one of the biggest events in global sport, the Games provides an opportunity to enhance international awareness of Queensland and Australia as a great holiday destination.
In collaboration with Federal and State Government including Tourism and Events Queensland and Destination Gold Coast, Tourism Australia is working to maximise the international tourism related benefits of hosting the XXI Commonwealth Games.
About the Games
The GC2018 will be the biggest sporting and cultural event in Australia this decade. More than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 Commonwealth nations and territories will share in the excitement of the Games, which are expected to attract a worldwide TV audience of more than 1.5 billion people and bring more than 100,000 visitors to the Gold Coast.
Queen’s Baton Relay
The GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay is the longest and most accessible in history, travelling through all Commonwealth nations and territories for 388 days before it arrives in Australia for a further 100 days. When the Queen’s Baton arrives at the Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018, Her Majesty’s message will be removed from the Baton and read aloud to declare the Games open.
