  • There were 3.2 million visitor arrivals to Australia during the six months to June 2014, an increase of 9.0 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.
  • There were 452,400 visitor arrivals during June 2014, an increase of 2.2 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.

Key trends by market are outlined below.

New Zealand

  • There were 93,400 visitors from New Zealand during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 558,800, an increase of 5.6 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.

Europe

  • There were 25,000 visitors from the United Kingdom during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 313,500, an increase of 1.8 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 6,600 visitors from Germany during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 83,300, an increase of 11.7 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 6,600 visitors from France during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 51,200 an increase of 6.0 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

The Americas

  • There were 39,600 visitors from the United States of America during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 272,200, an increase of 10.9 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 6,400 visitors from Canada during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 68,800, an increase of 9.6 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

Southeast Asia

  • There were 44,300 visitors from Singapore during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 171,300, an increase of 17.7 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 26,700 visitors from Malaysia during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 147,300, an increase of 29.7 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 17,000 visitors from India during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 99,500, an increase of 19.3 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 13,800 visitors from Indonesia during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 64,600, an increase of 9.9 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 5,200 visitors from Thailand during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 38,000, an increase of 4.7 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

Japan and Korea

  • There were 16,400 visitors from Japan during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 141,500, an increase of 0.4 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 12,800 visitors from Korea during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 99,600, an increase of 2.3 per cent relative to the same period previous year.

Greater China

  • There were 45,300 visitors from China during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 421,500, an increase of 13.7 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 12,700 visitors from Hong Kong during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 99,200, an increase of 16.7 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
  • There were 10,200 visitors from Taiwan during June 2014, bringing the total for the six months to June to 59,200, an increase of 12.3 per cent relative to the same period previous year.
