AI Adoption and Use Statement
Tourism Australia is a Corporate Commonwealth Entity dedicated to promoting tourism to and within Australia.
The Digital Transformation Agency's Policy for responsible use of AI in government (Policy) sets out the Australian Government approach to provide for safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI).
This statement provides details of Tourism Australia’s voluntary implementation of these Policy requirements. Tourism Australia is committed to ensuring that its use of AI complies with the Policy and relevant ethical, legal, and security guidelines.
AI use
We recognise the potential of AI to enhance workplace efficiency. As such, we are implementing approved Generative AI (Gen AI) tools for internal staff use to improve productivity and streamline day-to-day tasks.
To ensure compliance with the Policy, we will:
- Conduct risk assessments of new or renewed AI tools prior to permitting use within Tourism Australia.
- Adhere to applicable legislation, government-mandated AI governance frameworks and ethical guidelines.
- Provide staff with clear policies, guardrails and training on AI use, ensuring responsible and appropriate deployment.
Measuring effectiveness of deployed AI systems
We have an 8-point AI Adoption Checklist detailed within our AI Safe Usage Policy. To ensure effectiveness, we will regularly review the checklist to ensure AI systems are being utilised safely and effectively.
Protecting the public from negative impacts
Although our AI use is limited to internal applications, we are committed to minimising potential risks. To protect the public against negative impacts associated with our use of AI, we will:
- Require all staff to comply with Tourism Australia’s AI Safe Usage Policy (including obtaining CIO approval prior to deployment of any AI use case).
- Ensure AI-generated content is used responsibly and does not mislead the public.
- Implement safeguards to prevent biases in AI-generated outputs.
- Maintain human oversight in all AI-assisted decision-making processes.
- Provide ongoing staff training on ethical AI use.
Review and updates
This statement will be reviewed and updated annually, or sooner if significant changes are made to our AI approach. Any revisions will be aligned with updates to the Policy.
