We host media from all channels including broadcast (free-to-air, pay television and radio), print (consumer and trade), online and news services. To be considered, you will need to be employed by a media channel; have a strong following on online platforms; or if a freelance journalist, it would be highly advantageous if you have received a firm assignment across one or more media channels. In all cases, the readership or viewership of the media channels for which you work needs to align to Australia’s target visitor, the experience seeker.
Media Hosting Program
Tourism Australia’s media hosting program is designed to enable media from Australia and our key international markets to immerse themselves in the destination to create more motivating and compelling stories for their audiences.
Each itinerary is individually tailored to meet the specific needs and story objectives of each participating media, showcasing the most engaging Australian characters and the best of the country’s food and wine, aquatic and coastal, Indigenous, nature and wildlife experiences.
Tourism Australia hosts between 400 to 600 media representatives each year from more than 16 countries. The program hosts domestic and international media from consumer and trade publications, broadcast crews for television and online channels, as well as advocates and digital influencers with a strong following on social media or other platforms.
We aim to host media channels whose audiences align with and have deep reach into our target consumer audiences within Australia and our key international markets. While we proactively invite media to travel within and to Australia as our guest, if you have a compelling story idea we would also be very interested in hearing from you.
Program criteria
To be considered for our program, you may be a freelance journalist who works across one or more media channels or you may be employed by a media channel. Your audience will align with our targets in one or more of our key markets.
We prefer you have a commissioned story angle to participate in our media hosting program and anticipate that you will create compelling stories that will be published or broadcast within your assigned media channels.
If you are invited to travel within or to Australia by Tourism Australia you will be hosted as a guest of the Media Hosting Program. We also work with our State and Territory Tourism partners and hundreds of tourism operators to coordinate your visit. We may provide a guide or allow you to meet your itinerary obligations independently, depending on your needs and the complexity of your itinerary.
